Over – From June 27 to September 9, 2018, the Sofitel Paris le Faubourg presents the exhibition of the latest works by the artist Catherine Aznar, Movement of Color.
The movement, the gesture, the body in its expressiveness, make trace in the work of Catherine Aznar. Inspired by collaborations with haute couture, architecture or living arts, her work creates a field where time, space and creation have neither end nor limits.
The artist’s research on color and matter, is available on the surface, in volume on different media such as aluminum, plexiglass or textile. The fabrics are revealed as a material of high artistic value and become, through their handling, the support of a reflection on the color and its effects.
The artworks materialize the color in its different wavelengths. The quest is naturally emotional. Its narration is the movement. Elusive in its physical dimension, the color here finds expression on smooth and brilliant surfaces hosting the coincidences of a natural phenomenon caused by a gesture, an energy. It embodies the light.
Catherine Aznar graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in textile design specialization.
From 2005 to 2010, she practiced mainly as an independent textile designer in various fields: trend research, decoration, and more particularly fashion, for luxury couture houses (Chanel, Balenciaga) as fashion and material designer, creating colors and prints.
Since 2012, Catherine Aznar focuses mainly on her own creations and works in her personal artistic approach resulting from her reflections and her taste for research and innovation. In October 2017, at the abstract art and new reality trade show, she received the prize of LaCritique.org awarded by the critic and curator Christian Gattinoni. In parallel it responds to exclusive orders from individuals, creators such as Sonia Rykiel and contributes to architectural projects. Her strong taste for movement, creative gesture and the body in his expressiveness finally leads her to experiment a work around the gesture, inscribed in a lived space and temporality, performances that, through creations and ephemeral expressions do works beyond their material traces.
